A BROMSGROVE museum has provided the backdrop to the latest British comedy hitting the cinema this Christmas.

Actors Marc Wootton and former Doctor Who star David Tennant visited Avoncroft Museum for a day’s filming of key scenes in the family film Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger! 

The Christmas comedy sees the pupils from St Bernadette’s heading to Wales to compete in a national choir contest, with hilarity along the way.

The museum’s wagon shed, which dates backs to the early 18th century, was transformed into a stable for the scenes in the film - the sequel to the 2009 hit Nativity!

Stunt donkey, Archie, also appeared in the scenes filmed at the Redditch Road-based museum.

Avoncroft Museum’s director, Simon Carter, said: “We really enjoyed having the Nativity 2 team on site and it was exciting to welcome such famous actors to the museum.

“Both David Tennant and Marc Wootton visited our Edwardian tea room and feedback from the crew was overwhelmingly positive.”

The museum has recently gained more interest from television and film crews looking for authentic period settings, or unusual venues.

The museum features as a set in a new period drama for the BBC, due to air in 2013, and will appear in a documentary on the Turin Shroud.

It is also set to feature in episodes of Come Dine With Me and Antiques Road Trip, also due to air in the New Year.

“Avoncroft is a unique venue - because we’re an open air site, there’s plenty of room for all the equipment that accompanies actors and their entourages,” Mr Carter added.
