Finstall and Cofton Hackett WI
Finstall Village Hall, decorated with balloons and bunting, was filled to capacity for our 80th Birthday Party. Everyone was greeted with a glass of wine or fruit juice and business was dealt with swiftly so that the party could begin. There were reminders of the Spring Meeting at the Artrix on April 24, of the Brian Draper trip to the Gloucester and Wiltshire Border and the Group Meeting at Blackwell and Burcot WI both on April 26 We then settled down to enjoy the entertainment provided by The Cherrywood Singers, Sally and Linda, who sang a wide variety of songs with Linda on the guitar. Some were very well known like “What a Wonderful World” and “Blue Heaven” and we all laughed as they sang “Walter, Walter, take me to the Altar” written in 1937, the year when we were formed. “Chattanooga Choo Choo” with Sally on a very authentic train whistle was memorable. They interspersed their songs with poetry including Wordworth's “Daffodils” which added to our enjoyment. Jessica thanked Sally and Linda for an entertaining performance. The afternoon was rounded off with a splendid array of party food provided by the members. The raffle was drawn and the many prizes handed out, followed by the competition which was won by Deana with Kath second and Jessica and Nova joint third. Val thanked everyone for coming and we all agreed that it had been an afternoon to remember.
