It was the NFWI Annual Meeting in Liverpool on June 7. Our delegate Christine Hickman-Smith will be coming to our July meeting to give her report. However, two of us went up to Liverpool and had a lovely day.
The Meeting was opened by Janice Langley NFWI Chair. This was followed by a welcome from the Mayor of Liverpool. There were two excellent speakers Jo Fairley author and co-founder of Green & Black's Organic Chocolate and Susie Dent Author and resident dictionary expert on Channel 4's Countdown. It was a very good meeting ending with a tribute band playing 60's songs and obviously finishing with one of the Beatles well known numbers.
Several members went to Pedmore WI's Cheese and Wine evening. It was very enjoyable but this was mainly due to the entertainment provided by two of their members. A really good double act and very funny.
Everything is in hand for the Produce Show being held on 12th August.
Names should be put forward for the Worcester Federation Bursaries for Denman College. This will be done at our next meeting.
Our new Group Co-ordinator is Chris Henderson from Frankley WI.
There is a lunch with Gyles Brandreth organised by WFWI at the Château Impney on Monday 11th September. Names of who would like to go are required as soon as possible.
Our speaker this evening was Adrian James on Bodenham Arboretum through the ages,
Adrian pointed out that he didn’t work for Bodenham Arboretum but was a freelance photographer of plants and gardens for magazines and catalogues. He has a long standing love for the Arboretum and has photographed it over many years.
He showed us amazing slides ranging from winter snow scenes, with lovely frosty and misty early mornings, through the seasons to Autumn. The colours were fantastic as were the photographs showing reflections of plants and trees in the water. Beautiful photography and wonderfully captured.
The vote of thanks was given by Kath and she said how much we all enjoyed it and even though most of us had previously visited the Arboretum we saw it in a different light.
The competition for best single rose of won by Meriel, 2nd and 3rd Shirley
The next meeting is on July 12. The speaker is Christine Westwood on One Stroke Painting and the competition is 'colour a flower' Do come along you will be very welcome.
