We welcomed Christine Hickman-Smith our link delegate at the NFWI AGM in Liverpool.
She said how much she enjoyed the day and the speakers were very good.
The debate around the Resolutions was very helpful and she was pleased to have been given discretion on the Loneliness Resolution. Generally the meeting felt W.I’s could address individually without a mandate. Full details are available on the W.I web site.
The speaker this evening was Christine Westwood on 'One stroke painting'.
Christine lives part of the year in Florida and that is where she was introduced to this art.
Using enamel acrylic paint a very flat brush is loaded with one colour on one corner and another colour on the opposite corner. When applied to the surface being painted a two colour image is produced with one stoke. She made it look so easy and insisted that it was, with very little practice. She had a wide selection of items on show vases, jars, plates, cards, paper bags. All beautifully decorated. Ceramic items are baked in a domestic oven to make them dishwasher safe. The art can also be applied to fabric using paint without the enamel.
Christine produced a lovely picture of roses on a black canvas which Sheila Trueman was delighted to win in the raffle.
Conversation continued during tea and we are sure to see her again in the future.
The competition of 'Colour a Flower' was won by Wendy Jones 2nd Ann Galbraith-Jellie
