A GROUP of Wychbold residents have come together to reopen a social club in their village.
The building on De Wyche Road, Wychbold, closed suddenly two months ago.
Now, 18 volunteers have put their hands in their pockets and, with help from numerous donations from the community, have raised over £20,000.
Wychbold Sports and Social Club hopes to be ready to reopen on Friday, July 28.
Gary Bowen, club spokesman, said “We’ve all grown up with the club and many of us have a lot connections with it.
"When it closed, it left a bit of a hole in our community.
"We didn’t realise how much we needed it and if nobody does anything then it will stay closed and we’ll lose it forever."
Local businesses and tradespeople have volunteered to decorate and refurbish the club as well donating a number of items including doors and signs.
Gary said: "The support really has been fantastic.
"We’ve had lots of help and support from local people, even if they can’t afford to contribute they’ve offered their time.
"Just the other day, a resident in the village stopped me in the street when I was walking the dog and stuck a cheque in my hand just like that.
"There’s just so much love out there for it. It has really re-energised the community."
