A VAN fire has caused delays on the M42 between Bromsgrove and Alvechurch.

Lane 1 was closed on the M42 northbound between J1 for Bromsgrove and J2 for Alvechurch due to a van fire, which left smoke blowing across the road.

Ambulance and traffic officers were at the scene of the fire.

Congestion was around half a mile before the M5 joins the M42, with traffic also building on the A38 approach from Bromsgrove.

But that traffic is now easing after all lanes re-opened by 7.15am.
