VOLUNTEERS from a Stoke Prior company helped create a giant chess board for pupils at a Bromsgrove school.
Dotted Eyes Ltd, based at Harris Business Park, decided to replace its annual team building day with a community action day on May 20.
The company’s managing director contacted Charford First School and offered to bring the company’s staff to do something for the school children.
The team worked on a piece of overgrown land, clearing nettles, cutting back trees, and planting a flowerbed.
They then created the chessboard laying alternate coloured slabs, and finished off by introducing the oversize chess pieces.
The cost of the project was covered by the company, apart from the plants which were donated by Singleton’s Nurseries.
Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid visited on the day.
He said: "I was thrilled to see the employees from Dotted Eyes do such a wonderful thing for the local community.
“What a great example of the big society in action.”
