A DROITWICH former business development manager has lost a compensation claim for unfair dismissal after losing her job about the same time as her daughter with the same firm.
Now Mrs Deborah Rees of Little Park, Droitwich, is hoping her daughter Emma will have more success than her when her Birmingham Employment Tribunal hearing goes ahead.
Mrs Rees had been employed by the national firm of RDS Driving Services Ltd – a division of the RDS group - for eight years and had to travel to different parts of the country as part of her job.
The firm opposed Mrs Rees’ compensation claims at a previous hearing and said she had been involved in a redundancy situation.
The tribunal had been told that other redundancies had taken place following a restructuring process as part of a costs saving project.
Mrs Rees had complained that her job had been given to other individuals.
The previous hearing had been adjourned for more evidence.
At the latest hearing the tribunal was told that during the first restructuring programme the business development manager’s role was changed to franchise recruitment and Mrs Rees eventually lost her job.
Mrs Rees said she failed to appeal against the firm’s decision to make her redundant because she believe the decision had already been a forgone conclusion.
She said she had no confidence in the firm.
Tribunal judge Mrs Ann Mrs Benson described Mrs Rees’ evidence as truthful but said the firm’s decision to dismiss her fell within the bounds of reasonable responses. As a result her compensation claim was rejected.
The firm is to contest the compensation claim by Mrs Rees’ daughter, Emma Hall, at the tribunal hearing later this year.
