A heroic century from Gareth Roderick put Worcestershire in control against Somerset.

In a spectacular showing, Roderick delivered his first 100-run knock of the season, underpinning Worcestershire's dominant performance.

Aiding the team's efforts, opener Jake Libby also made a significant contribution of 97 runs, sharing a 194-run partnership with the South African.

Combining sturdy defence with aggressive batting, Roderick’s score of 122 bolstered the team's innings, as they declared at 451-9, leading with 142 runs.

Despite Somerset's Shoaib Bashir sparking a mini-collapse, the day belonged to the Pears.

The 20-year-old spinner, enjoying a quiet season so far, removed Libby and Kashif Ali during a 28-over spell.

Unfortunately for Somerset, it had little impact on the day's results.

Adding to Worcestershire's show of prowess, captain Brett D'Oliveira scored 66, and Leach knocked off 43 runs.

The day's play began at 12.10pm after heavy overnight rainfall caused the loss of 10 overs.

Early in the match, it seemed Libby would cross the century mark, but his dismissal by Bashir tampered those hopes as he was bowled in an attempt to drive a turning ball.

Bashir continued the momentum, trapping Ali lbw for 17 runs.

Rob Jones was bowled by Migael Pretorius, leaving Worcestershire at 244-4.

However, Roderick held steady, reaching his century despite the team losing Adam Hose (39) to Jake Ball.

Ball also sent Roderick packing and Holder went lbw to Lewis Gregory, who also removed Matthew Waite.

D'Oliveira and Leach then took control, driving the total past 400 and securing four batting bonus points as the Pears declared at 451-9.

Worcestershire concluded the day nicely as Somerset took to the crease, with Holder catching out Somerset's Sean Dickson for a duck, leaving Somerset on 5-1 at stumps.
