Carol welcomed everyone on what was a very humid evening. She said it was lovely to get back into a routine after the garden meeting in June and the Produce Show in August.
Best wishes go to Nancie who is still in the Alexandra Hospital waiting to be transferred.
We had to nominate a member who wanted to take part in the Federation draw for the bursary to Denman College. Several members were interested but Ilse's name came out of the hat. Good luck to her in the draw.
The skittles evening held by Catshill WI was a great success and everyone found it very enjoyable. The fish and chip supper was excellent too.
The Annual Council Meeting is being held in October in Malvern, Carol will be our delegate and she can also take two visitors.
We plan to have a day out to Denman College on July 17. More details later.
Catshill W.I are doing a Christmas shopping coach trip to Cardiff on November 23 at a cost of £23pp
Dodford WI are holding their 60th birthday party on October 14. Three members are invited.
The Autumn Group Meeting is on October 19 at Sidemoor. Three members can attend.
Carol asked if anyone had ideas for speakers, outings, and competitions. We are all to give it some thought.
It is Fairfield W.I’s 85th birthday next year and an outing is being discussed – maybe a river cruise.
Sheila is holding a McMillan Coffee Morning in the Football Club on September 30 at 10am. Do come along and support this.
Anne gave a report on the Produce Show which, although entrants were slightly down, was a great success and is an enjoyable event to put on. She thanked the Committee for all their hard work.
The speaker was David Bartley Black Country Word-smith.
What a fabulous talk and so funny. He had us all in stitches with his poetry and banter. He included some of the members in his talk
David came from Tipton and referred several times to Tommy Munden - his idol.
Those of us from the Black Country could relate to some of his stories. As I said a 'bostin' night.
Brenda gave the vote of thanks.
The competition of 'Stourbridge Glass' was won by Hilda Cleaver, 2nd Maggie Mason 3rd Meriel Scurrell
The raffle was won by Margaret Hardeman, Mary Fairbairn, Ann Dalby.
The next meeting is on October 12 at 7.30pm in the village hall. The speaker is Richard Kendrick 'Behind the Scenes with a TV and Film Caterer'. Competition 'Autumn Berries Display'. Do come along you will be very welcome.
