Fairfield WI
The meeting was opened with a warm welcome to everyone from Carol, especially our two visitors.
Jerusalem was sung and apologies given.
Carol thanked Sheila for the hand made green hearts which were on the table. During February W.I members across England and Wales will be showing the love for everything that could be lost to climate change by making, wearing and sharing green hearts.
With the green heart theme in mind Isobel and her grand-daughter Charlotte made some lovely cup cakes for us all – that meant diet and sugar free February went right out of the window without any trouble at all - delicious though.
We could do with more members in the book club. This is a very enjoyable part of our W.I with a lot of fun on the evenings when reviewing the current book.
Bromsgrove W.I are having their 100th birthday party on March 14 at 2pm at the Life After Stroke Centre in Bromsgrove.
The Resolutions results have been counted and sent off to WFWI they will then be forwarded to NFWI.
The spring meeting is at the Artrix on April 24, 7-9pm at a cost of £7.50.
There is a visit organised by WFWI to Royal Hospital Chelsea on May 2. The cost is £32 which will include the coach and a 2 hour tour.
Our speaker this evening was Louise Gardner on Silver Jewellery.
Louise started in the silver jewellery business by up-cycling old jewellery. She now has premises in Wordsley, Stourbridge.
Carol volunteered to take part in making an item of jewellery.
First of all she had a small piece of very expensive PMC (Precious Metal Clay) which with the help of Louise she had to roll out – this is done at room temperature and had to be done fairly quickly before it hardened off. She made two small flower shapes, probably used for ear-rings, which would be then left for 24 hours before being heated.
Louise showed us all her various tools for polishing etc., and demonstrated their uses. She brought a large selection of her jewellery to show us, which was beautifully displayed.
It was a lovely talk and she gave us all several very useful tips. Ellen gave the vote of thanks.
The competition of 'Silver Jewellery' was won by Val Bradford, 2nd Carol Hine 3rd Ann Dalby.
Next month is the members evening. We are having a bring and buy sale. This will be for handbags, scarves, gloves and jewellery so bring anything you might have ladies. We shall also be having a game of Bingo. This is on March 8 at 7.30pm in the village hall.
