Mary opened the meeting as Carol was away on holiday. She said it was lovely to see some new faces.
Apologies were read out. Several of the members were absent due to ill health. We wish them all a speedy recovery.
The bring and buy sale held in March was successful and Age UK were grateful for the donation of unsold scarves and bags.
4 members went to the County Quiz on April 3. We did quite well – didn't come anywhere near last so in my eyes we did very well :)
There is a coffee morning being held at Catshill Social Club on April 24. Mary Davies is organising this. The last one was very well attended and everyone enjoyed meeting up with old friends so do come along if you are able. There will also be a raffle.
Our 85th birthday River Cruise is on April 25. We are meeting at 1pm on the Recreation Ground car park in Fairfield.
The AGM/Resolutions Evening is on May 10. The new start time for this evening is 7pm as we are also having a fish and chip supper. The two resolutions being voted on are Plastic Soup (keep micro plastic fibres out of our oceans) and Alleviating Loneliness. The competition is 5 cheese scones.
Maggie went on a food safety course on March 11.
The schedules are now available for the Produce Show being held on August 12. We will be having 2 new trophies for overall winner and novice class.
The speaker this evening was Anthony Collis on 'Long reigning British monarchs'
It was all about pub signs from the Battle of Hastings in 1066 onwards.
It was so interesting as Anthony showed us slides of the Monarchs on pub signs which were situated in different parts of the country. Some just had the Monarchs head and we were trying to recognise who it was. Some were humorous. One of the signs for 'The Kings Head' depicted a large axe and a basket – a little gruesome.
Apparently these public house signs can only be used when the Monarch has died except if it is an official picture being used.
Unfortunately, hardly any of these types of signs are in existence today – time moves on which is a shame.
It was a great talk.
The vote of thanks was given by Maggie.
The competition of 5 Royal cupcakes. Was won by Beverly.
As previously said the next meeting is the AGM/Resolutions evening with fish and chip supper. This is on May 10 and starts at 7 pm.
