Fairfield WI

Carol opened the meeting welcoming Jules Evans WI advisor who came to assist with the AGM and Resolutions.

Six members went to the Spring Federation meeting at the Artrix to hear Dave Fletcher. It was excellent and hopefully he will be booked again in the near future, to give a talk on a different topic.

The coffee morning held in Catshill was very enjoyable as was the River Cruise with cream tea in Stratford.

Four members went to the Spring Group Meeting held by Blackwell and Burcot WI.

The trip to the Chelsea Royal Hospital was a great success and hopefully, because it was over subscribed, another visit can be arranged later in the year.

AGM

Maggie gave the secretary's report. We have 32 members including 2 dual members. She did a brief overview of the events and outings organised last year. Also mentioning the monthly speakers we have had which were all very good and some exceptional.

Sheila read out the treasurers report. Funds are very healthy. A lot of this is due to the proceeds from the Produce Show which is held annually in August.

Carol (president) gave her report saying what an enjoyable year it had been and thanked everyone especially the committee for all their hard work. Special thanks to Anne for her work and that of her committee in organising the Produce Show.

We adopted the presidents, secretary's and treasurers report.

Ellen gave the vote of thanks to the retiring committee.

Our present committee have all agreed to stand again and were elected on block.

Carol Hines was nominated as president with Mary Fairbairn as vice president, Maggie Mason Secretary, Meriel Scurrell correspondence secretary and Sheila Morris treasurer.

RESOLUTIONS

As to the importance of us voting in the resolutions. Jules said that with 250,000 women in the WI campaigning, it is important and it does make a difference.

Alleviating Loneliness: This was discussed at great length going back and forth on what is being done and can or cannot be done.

It was agreed that we would ask our representative to vote at her discretion.

Plastic Soup. Keep Micro fibres out of our oceans: Again this was discussed at length.

The result was 25 for this resolution. 1 discretion. None against.

Halfway through the proceedings we all enjoyed a fish and chip supper which was very welcome.

The competition of five savoury scones was won by Beverly Cotterill, second Sheila Morris.

The next meeting is on June 14 in the Village Hall at 7.30pm. The speaker is Adrian James on 'Bodenham Arboretum through the ages'. The competition 'Best single rose' Do come along you will be very welcome.
