MUSIC lovers will be in for a treat in Romsley this weekend when a popular annual festival rolls into the village.

The sixth Romstock will take place on the playing fields on St Kenelms Road in Romsley on June 10 with nine acts set to perform for nine hours at the charity bash.

All money raised goes to needy projects in the village. Last year, a former telephone kiosk was turned into a defibrillator unit using Romstock proceeds while this year the parish council want to create a community basketball court in the park.

Acts on this year’s bill include Big Jim and the Mumbo Shakers, who are fronted by Red Lemons Electric Blues Band legend Jim Merris, who can count Robert Plant among their fans.

Ska tribute band Rudi and the Revolvers, who boast former Beat and Dexys Midnight Runners members, will also feature alongside an Elvis tribute act, Soul Mania, Strictly Abba, Izzy the Push, guitarist Dan Greenaway, violinist Julienne Bourne and rock covers band Red Tails.

Romstock band coordinator Mark Moran said: “The event started in 2012 for the Queens jubilee and has grown bigger every year.

"The first year we had a few bands playing in a green gazebo and about 200 people turned up. Last year the audience was close to 2000".

Event organiser David Powell added: "We also like to highlight new talent at Romstock and this year 16 year old Felicity Cox from Hagley is performing. Felicity has a great future ahead of her and you can say that you saw her first at Romstock.”

Tickets are available in advance from the Co Op store in Romsley on line by visiting the Romstock Facebook site at www.facebook.com/RomsleyRomstock/

Early bird prices are £10 per adult with a family ticket £20. Prices on the day are £15 per adult and £3 for children. The gates open at 11.45am with the first band on stage at 12noon.
