At the July meeting Alan Rogers gave us a wholly fascinating and highly entertaining account of his career as a traffic policeman. The quiz team, consisting of Marilyn Crawford, Irene March, Margaret Kemp and Vanessa Stanton were congratulated on winning the County Quiz. It was reported that at the Beoley Village Hall Open Day there had been much interest shown in Beoley WI, from interesting people. The money donated to Beoley WI by Joyce Broughton's daughter has been used to pay for, not only daffodil bulbs for all members, but also a rose bowl engraved with her name for display on the President's table at meetings, and various arrangements of synthetic flowers for throughout the year. Marilyn Crawford and Margaret Tipping were thanked for organising the June meeting, which was a tour of St Leonard's Church, Beoley, with a talk by Ralph Richardson and a fish and chip supper. Chris Brotherton, as Beoley WI's representative at the National Council Meeting, gave a report of her enjoyable and interesting time there, where the resolution concerned with plastic soup was almost unanimously voted for to be presented to the government. The competition, for a whistle, was won by Rosemarie Davies. In August, there is a walk from the Eagle and Sun in Hanley, followed by lunch there.
The next meeting, on September 5, at 7.30pm in Beoley Village Hall, Janice Bell will teach us how to make focaccia bread, and the competition is for a bell. New members are welcome.
