BROMSGROVE council must find space to provide a further 2,300 homes between 2023 and 2030, with the Green Belt set to be reviewed.
Under the Bromsgrove District Plan Review, the council must identify land in order to meet the overall housing target of 7,000 dwellings between 2011 and 2030.
Land is currently identified to provide for 4,700 dwellings, with a consultation to discuss site selection for the further 2,300 homes proposed to begin around May or June this year.
It is envisaged that consultation will also include a Green Belt Review within the district.
Cllr Kit Taylor, portfolio holder for Planning Services and Strategic Housing, said: "We've got a district plan that council members passed last year.
“We must review that plan, and this latest step is basically the timetable for that review, taking the development of the district forward."
