POLICE made a gruesome discovery after finding a dead body in a block of Charford flats following concerns from neighbours.
A male resident of Lyttleton Avenue flats was found dead in his home on August 1 and is believed to have been there for some time before being found.
The flats are managed by Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) and have since reviewed their current policies surrounding welfare after the incident.
A neighbour claims they alerted bdht about the resident’s welfare on July 28 after his post was piling up outside, but no welfare check was carried out.
The neighbour was then forced to contact police on August 1 to alert them of the welfare issue.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “Police responded to a concern for safety at an address in Lyttleton Avenue at around 5pm on 1 August 2021 following a call from a member of the public.
“Police entered an address at the location and sadly a man was found deceased within.
“The death was not deemed to be suspicious and a file was completed for the coroner.”
Mark Robertson, chief executive at bdht, said: “The health and welfare of our customers is of utmost importance to us. In this circumstance, we attended the property on several occasions and there were no known vulnerabilities with the customer to suggest cause for further concern.
“We have however, reviewed our current policies and procedures and if we receive a report of someone requiring a welfare check moving forwards, we will inform the police immediately in order for them to undertake any further action.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the customer’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Residents have also reported hygiene concerns following the tragic death as neighbours claim a ‘swarm of flies around the block’ were formed after cleaners opened the door to the flat.
Mr Robertson added: “We are continuing to liaise with neighbouring customers at Lyttleton Avenue and have already undertaken works to the property, including deep cleaning and replacing the front door.
“Further cleaning works to the communal areas will be undertaken today to offer further reassurance for our residents.”
