Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest is set to receive a cash boost thanks to kind-hearted shoppers in Rubery.
Jack’s supermarket in Rubery launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes voted for by its customers.
Shoppers have been voting for local good causes, including Holywell Primary and Nursery School PTA, Rednal Litter Busters and Rubery Wombles with Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest securing the donation.
All four charities received £250 for taking part, and Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest were given an additional £500 following the round of voting.
Jo Hughes, Marketing Executive from Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest, said: “Age UK BRWF is really grateful to Jack’s Support for his award. Having access to information and advice that we can trust and help us make informed decisions is important to all of us throughout our lives, but especially as we grow older which is why our Information & Advice Service is core to everything that we do as a local charity.
"We intend to use this funding to start piloting information and advice services at our New Road Charity Shop, developing the role of our shop as a ‘Community Hub’ and helping to make our support and services more accessible to members of the Rubery community.”
Voting is now open in store for four new charities, who are each eligible for Jack’s Supports funding including Bromsgrove and district Blood Cancer UK, Rednal Hill Junior School, Home from Hospital Care and Bromsgrove and Redditch Network.
Ryan Bird, Jack’s Rubery store manager, said: “We launched Jack’s Supports to give something back to the local communities that have supported us since our launch. Each of the charities involved in the scheme do fantastic work in the local area, and we’re delighted that we are in a position to be able to offer our support.”
