FAIRFIELD Post Office is temporarily closing on November 4 due to staffing issues.

The closure, which has been described as a ‘great shame’ will mean residents will have to travel to Casthill, Alcester Road, Belbroughton or Bromsgrove to use post office services.

Kam Ohri who helps run the post office with sub-postmaster husband Sunny said they are both sorry the post office has had to close.

“We have been struggling a long time with the running of the post office due to staff shortage, reduction of income due to online car tax and then Covid we just could not afford to keep going and survive on the income from the post office," said Kam.

“It is a shame and the post office head office have known for a long time that we were struggling.

"But on behalf of sunny the sub postmaster thank you for all your support while we were running and we are sorry we had to close it.”

A post office spokesperson, said: “The branch experienced staffing issues during the pandemic and the Postmaster has decided to resign. The branch will be temporarily closed.

“We know how important a Post Office is to a community. The vacancy will be advertised. Alternative branches in the area include Catshill, Alcester Road, Belbroughton and Bromsgrove.”
