STAFF at a medical equipment manufacturer in Bromsgrove have been praised after saving a colleague’s life.
On July 8, at around 8am, Alan Hunt, production team member at Kimal PLC on Sherwood Road, collapsed whilst working in the company’s cleanroom and went into cardiac arrest.
Upon noticing that he was no longer breathing, a member of the team began CPR and another called 999, staying on the phone with them until a first responder arrived.
At the same time, another colleague attached defibrillator pads to Alan’s chest and delivered a shock.
Immediately, Alan made an audible noise, and his eyes began to flicker.
He was then put into the recovery position.
It is estimated that the series of events lasted around five minutes.
Soon after, the first emergency responder and ambulance crew arrived, and Alan was transferred to Worcester Royal Hospital, stable but in a critical condition.
Alan, who has now returned to work, said: “If it weren’t for the team working together and showing such team spirit, I wouldn’t be here today.”
He has also begun volunteering as a counsellor for Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, a charity providing dedicated support to adults who have been bereaved by suicide.
Matthew Press, Kimal’s CEO, said he is very proud how the team responded.
“If not for their quick thinking and prompt actions, the outcome that day could have been very different,” said Mr Press.
“The board and I are committed to the safety and well-being of our staff and believe that investing in the right equipment and training so that staff can respond quickly in situations such as this is essential.”
