THE number of new Covid-19 infections rose in only one area in Bromsgrove and the surrounding district, latest data shows.

Infections rose in Bromsgrove Central and Sanders Park in the seven days up to February 9.

Cases in the area increased by 35.1 per cent on the week before, with 77 new cases recorded.

It means the infection rate per 100,000 people in the area stands at 1,017.7.

It was the only area to record an infection rate of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 area and falls within the 800-1599 case rate range, which is the second highest category used by the government in its online case rate map.

Also falling in this category are Marlbrook and Lickey End and Bromsgrove Charford.

These areas recorded case rates of 820.6 and 801.8 per 100,000 people respectively.

Both areas did however record a fall in the number of new cases, with Marlbrook and Lickey End recording a drop of 15.6 per cent, while cases fell by 10.5 per cent in Bromsgrove Charford.

Bromsgrove Stoney Hill; Bromsgrove Sidemoor; Stoke Heath, Finstall and Bentley; Hagley; Alvechurch, Hopwood and Holt End; Catshill; Dodford, Belbroughton and Romsley; Rubery West Barnt Green and Lickey Hills all fell within the 400 – 799 case rate category.

It means that the area also recorded the lowest rate in the Bromsgrove district, recording a rate of 471.2 cases per 100,000 people.

The figures come as the requirement to self-isolate is expected to be lifted in England by the end of February, following an announcement by the Prime Minister.

England’s current self-isolation rules expire on March 24 but Boris Johnson said he hopes to bring them to an end a month ahead of that.
