AN Alvechurch pub has received a top accolade from CAMRA, just months under the helm of a new landlord.
The Weighbridge has been awarded ‘Pub of the Season’ for winter 2021/22 by members of the Redditch and Bromsgrove Campaign for Real Ale branch.
The award celebrates pubs that go the extra mile to celebrate their establishment and real ale.
Impressively, landlord Chris Lamb was handed the award just three months after taking the reins.
Chris follows on from John Humphreys who ran the pub for nearly 20 years, picking up numerous awards along the way.
The 32-year-old is no stranger to the pub as he worked shifts as a barman in his early twenties and dreamed of one day taking it on.
Responding to the win, Chris said: “It’s a privilege to be able to take on my local.
“It’s gone well, we have been lucky considering the climate, we have been really well supported.
“We try and get a variety to showcase the beers to support local breweries and to try out ones from further afield.
“We want to continue with what has worked well by focussing on quality food and drink.”
Chris has plans lined up for the pub including the return of the pub’s beer festival in May and the possibility of extending opening hours at weekends.
Gez Quinn, chair of Redditch and Bromsgrove CAMRA, said: “The Pub of The Season award is made four times a year and is awarded to any pub or club that in the branch’s opinion are “going the extra mile” to both promote their pub and especially the real ale they have on offer.
"If you know of any pubs in the Redditch, Bromsgrove or Droitwich area that meet this criteria, please put them forward so that they can be considered for future awards.”
