Kidderminster 8
Droitwich 12
Midlands Division Three West (South)
DROITWICH hung on for a hard-fought 12-8 win at Kidderminster Carolians to keep up their title challenge in Midlands Three West (South).
The visitors made a great start when winger Simon Pearce dived over after good work from John Critchlow, Sean Walker and Steve Poke.
The home side hit back strongly but good defence by Nick Godfrey and Matt Blackmore kept Droitwich in front.
Pressure by Kidderminster did earn them a penalty before half-time to reduce the deficit.
Both sides continued to go forward in the second period without stamping any authority on the game.
A good break by Poke found Jon Andrews in support and he provided Walker with the chance to dummy his way over the line. Duncan Hughes added a difficult conversion.
Kidderminster came back strongly and drove over late on to reduce the deficit to just four points.
But Droitwich held out in a frantic final five minutes and now focus their attention on Saturday's EDF Senior Vase sixth-round clash with Devon side Cullompton.
