THE Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee will investigate the financial troubles at both Worcester Warriors and Wasps on Thursday (November 24) morning.

Worcester Conservative MP Robin Walker and Worcester Warriors Community Foundation CEO Carol Hart will speak at the meeting and the heads of both Premiership Rugby (Simon Massie-Taylor) and the Rugby Football Union (Bill Sweeney) will be in attendance, with the meeting being aired live here at 10AM

The DCMS will quiz Massie-Taylor and Sweeney about how the two Premiership clubs suffered financial collapse simultaneously.

At the meeting, there will be discussions over whether more financial oversight of the game, and of club owners, is needed.

Wasps went into administration on 17 October, a couple of weeks after Worcester.

Worcester Rugby Football Club Players Ltd, the arm of the club through which players and staff are paid, was wound up in the High Court in London a week or so later, before all players and staff left the club.

Warriors' debts have now been found to total more than £30m, including millions in unpaid tax, while the Wasps Group was over £100m in debt.

The club's administrators - Begbies Traynor - are still working with former Worcester director Jim O'Toole and James Sandford on the sale of the club.

The pair were announced as the preferred bidders at the end of October.
