A BROMSGROVE specialist college has just under one month left to raise more than £11,000 for a new gazebo and vegetable garden.

Chadsgrove Specialist College is appealing for funding to transform its garden with a gazebo, raised planters, a vegetable garden with some areas raised for access, garden tools and a drainage system.

The college has already raised more than £7,000 of its £11,154 target thanks to generous donations and support from Crowdfund Worcestershire and Catshill and North Marlbrook Parish Council.

A spokesperson for Chadsgrove College said: “Students are looking to install a wooden gazebo, which will provide much-needed shelter for them to embrace the sensory aspects that the outdoors provides.

“The addition of wheelchair-friendly raised planters will enable all students to enhance their independent living skills by planting, maintaining, and growing fresh herbs and vegetables.

“Resurfacing of the grounds will mean that all students, including those that use walking aids or are wheelchair dependant, will be able to easily manoeuvre around the garden.”

The gazebo will also be used for outdoor activities by children at Chadsgrove Special School which shares the college site.

“The produce grown by students in their garden will be donated to both the ‘Cozy Café’, a community project based in the Catshill Meadow, and Catshill Foodbank, which is organised through Catshill Baptist Church,” added the spokesperson.

“The college also plans to hold events for members of the community to come and enjoy in their new garden.”

If the project hits its funding target before the end of the campaign period, any extra funds will be spent on buying seeds, plants, gardening equipment and potentially building a pond.
