A SELFLESS Bromsgrove nurse has braved the shave, raising more than £3,000 for her friend living with cancer.

Last month, Janet Garfield who works as a nurse at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital, had her long locks shaved off to fundraise for her colleague Jinsy Paily.

Last year Jinsy was diagnosed with stage three advanced bowel cancer which spread to her lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels.

After a series of operations, Jinsey is now having intensive chemotherapy which is hoped to finish in February.

Janet decided to raise some money for Jinsey and her family to help with finances and set up a GoFundMe page for people to sponsor her head shave.

A total of £3,430 has been raised.

Janet wrote on the GoFundMe page: “Alongside the physical and emotional burden of living with cancer, Jinsy also faces increasing financial pressures as she was the main earning member of her family.

“Jinsy’s sick pay was reduced in August which will place huge financial pressure on her and her family.

“Jinsy not only faces the uncertainty of living with cancer, but she also has the worry of supporting her family through what is predicted to be the toughest winter for many households due to the current cost of living crisis.

“This will relieve some pressure from someone who is already facing an incredibly difficult period of her life.”
