A huge murmuration was spotted over Droitwich.

If you looked to the skies of Worcestershire yesterday evening, you might not have believed what you were seeing.

Thousands of birds could be seen swooping and diving in unison.

For those that don't know, a murmuration is essentially a "mass aerial stunt" performed by one specific species of bird, the starling, say the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

Why do they do it? Well according to the RSPB there are many reasons.

Grouping in this way offers safety from predators such as peregrine falcons, helps the birds keep warm at night, and allows the to exchange information such as good feeding areas.

Starlings tend to gather over their roosting site and perform the stunts before they roost for the night, with early evening before dusk the best time to catch  a murmuration in action.
