A VOLUNTEER centre which operates across Bromsgrove and Redditch has become one of the first in the country to receive a new accreditation.

Bromsgrove and Redditch Network (BARN) has become one of the first in the country to receive the new Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation.

The accreditation, awarded by the National Association of Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA), ensures the holder provides a high-quality and effective service.

It is only awarded at the end of a rigorous assessment process lasting up to six months, and after interviews with staff, volunteers, and other organisations that the centre works with.

Gary Roskell, chief executive of BARN, said:“This is amazing news.

“We’re proud of the service we offer here, but to have a national body like NAVCA confirm it is extremely gratifying.

“And to be in the first group to ever be awarded this is particularly special.

“We couldn’t have done it without our own volunteers – a huge thank you to them.

“Volunteers are vital to help local charities, community groups and other services to keep going, and we’re delighted that the work our centre does has helped this and has been recognised in this way.”

The Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation is the only quality certification process designed specifically for local volunteer centres, and this is the first time the newly refreshed quality mark has ever been awarded.

BARN provides a volunteering matchmaking service, helping individuals and groups who want to volunteer, and organisations that need volunteers.
