Three people have been arrested after two men were shot dead in what police say were "targeted" attacks in villages in Cambridgeshire.
We can now reveal West Mercia Police was involved in the arrest of a 66-year-old man near junction 5 (Droitwich) of the M5.
Police found the body of a 32-year-old man after gunshots were heard in Meridian Close, Bluntisham, just after 9pm on Wednesday.
About 40 minutes later officers called to reports of shots in nearby Sutton found the body of a 57-year-old man.
Three people are being held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, including a man arrested near Worcester.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "A man was arrested by West Midlands Police supported by West Mercia officers and transported to Worcester custody.
"The vehicle was stopped on the southbound carriageway of the M5 at junction 5 at around 1am on Thursday, March 30."
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder after two men were shot dead in two “linked” incidents in separate Cambridgeshire villages around six miles apart.
Det Insp Mark Butler, from the major crime unit, said officers had launched "two linked murder investigations".
"These events will be shocking to local people and there will be understandable concerns within local communities, however, we are treating the attacks as targeted and there is no wider risk to the general public," he added.
"Detectives are now beginning inquiries into how these events unfolded and we are appealing to anyone who was in either area and saw anyone acting suspiciously or a white Peugeot 208.
"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be very important to our investigation."
Police have also recovered a white Peugeot 208 and a shotgun have been recovered.
Both properties were today cordoned off with an increased police presence in the area.
