A FORMER MasterChef contestant is set to open a new intimate restaurant in Bromsgrove.
Michael Rossiter- Eaglesfield, who starred on the hit BBC cookery show in 2019, will be opening Canary and Kitchen, with his wife Antonia on April 28.
Since 2019, the pair have been catering for people in their homes through their private dining business of the same name but decided Canary and Kitchen needed its own space.
The restaurant, which has space for only eight diners, will be serving up a seven-course tasting menu on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Guests can expect a three-month rotation of cuisines with the first being food influenced by Korean, Japanese and Chinese flavours.
Michael, aged 42, said he felt Aston Fields was the perfect home for their debut restaurant.
“We had an opportunity in Solihull to launch a site for our catering business, but we didn’t feel it was right,” said Michael.
“So, we started looking and then saw this premises, which was previously a dog groomer on New Road.
“We have run a private dining business for the past four years, serving tasting menus in people’s homes.
“We want to replicate that in the restaurant.
“It’s not just about the food, it is everything. It is our passion.”
Antonia’s heritage is reflected in the décor and name of the restaurant as she grew up in Lanzarote.
Diners will be greeted with a ‘Canarian house’ whilst enjoying ‘freshly prepared food’.
Antonia, who has a second job working at Worcester University, will be focussing on the front-of-house aspects of the restaurant while Michael will be cooking, and the couple will both be serving the food.
Michael who previously worked in commercial insurance said his MasterChef appearance snowballed his career in food.
“It was a great thing to do and it was a learning curve, added Michael.
“Off the back of it I got asked to do a home dining event and the ideas snowballed from there.”
