Dog lovers from across Worcestershire are set to join thousands of owners from across Europe by taking part in a charity walk to raise money for animal rescues.

The Agria Dog Walk, now in its fourth year, will take place this Saturday (May 20) at Witley Court and Gardens.

Thousands of dogs and their families from Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway and Sweden will be putting their best paw forward.

The walk marks the beginning of pet insurer Agria’s support for English Heritage’s dog-friendly days out under a new three-year partnership.

Agria will donate £5 for every dog that walks the walk around the Worcestershire countryside - with an aim of raising much needed funds for a selection of animal charities, including Daybreaks Trust, Birmingham.

Vicki Wentworth, CEO at Agria Pet Insurance, said: “It’s always so heart-warming to see dog lovers across the country unite to help to make a difference to the lives of animals in the care of rescues.

"We continue to see the cost of living crisis putting rescues under stress, so it’s never been more important to help to care for and rehome animals abandoned due to no fault of their own. Last year’s dog walk saw more than 800 dogs in the UK, and over 18,000 across Europe, walked to raise funds of over £35,000 - and this year we have set our sights even higher.”

Ruth Price from Daybreaks Trust, said: “This fantastic day out will not only help raise some valuable funds for us as an independent charity but will also hopefully promote our beautiful greyhounds as perfect pets.

“We are continuously inundated with requests to take dogs for rehoming and we currently have a waiting list for those retiring from racing that are waiting for a space at Daybreaks for us to find them a home. Along with trying to raise funds to keep running, we are constantly under pressure, so this event is going to be a great help.”
