PEOPLE are being warned to brace themselves for thunderstorms as a yellow weather warning has been put in place for Bromsgrove this Saturday (June 10). 

The Met Office has predicted adverse weather conditions between 2pm and 9pm for the West Midlands and Worcestershire. 

They have warned that whilst many areas will be largely dry, thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail are likely to develop in some places.

According to the Met Office: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and possibly even cancellations to rail services.

’There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be temporarily lost."

Advice has also been provided on what to do before a thunderstorm. 

The Met Office added: "Lightning can cause power surges, unplug any non-essential appliances if not already using a surge protector.

"Seek shelter if possible. When you hear thunder you are already within range of where the next ground flash may occur, lightning can strike as far as 10 miles away from the centre of a storm".
