MORE than 500 people attended the official opening of a new Bromsgrove care home.

The event saw dozens of classic cars roll up to Cofton Park Manor Care Home thanks to Pride of Longbridge members, giving visitors a chance to climb inside the spectacular vehicles and ask questions about their history.

Officially opening the home was community campaigner Gemma Cartwright, MBE, who said she was delighted to see so many people enjoying themselves.

Gemma said: “We are very proud of the community here and we know that Cofton Park Manor will add to the community investment and pride we have in the area.”

Gemma was awarded an MBE in 2009 for her work in restoring hope in the community hit by the collapse of the Rover car plant in 2005, when 6,500 jobs were lost.

She led a delegation to the House of Commons for the Rover Community Action Trust.

The afternoon bonanza also included a range of musical entertainment, BBQ and craft stalls, plus plenty of ice cream.

The Lickey Road home opened for business in January, creating 45 jobs and offering residential, dementia and nursing care.

Cofton Park Manor regional community relations lead, Matthew Brown, said: “It was wonderful to see so many here for the official opening and we are very grateful to Gemma and all the Pride of Longbridge members for being here and celebrating with us.”
