The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in the West Midlands with Worcestershire being affected.

The warning is in place from 6am until 12pm on Friday, August 18 and thunderstorms may cause some localised disruption.

The Met Office says people in the West Midlands, including Worcestershire, should expect a few things while the thunderstorm warning is in place.

Areas in the West Midlands expected to be affected by the thunderstorms are Herefordshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands Conurbation, Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

What should you expect as Met Office issues yellow thunderstorm warning?

There’s a good chance that driving conditions will be affected by spray and standing water which could lead to longer journey times when travelling by car and bus.

There is a chance of flooding of a few homes and businesses, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.

You should also expect a chance of some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes, as well as short-term loss of power.

Delays to train services are also possible.

A line of thunderstorms are expected to develop during Friday morning and move gradually northeast before weakening into the afternoon.

Most places will only see a short period of heavy rain but a few places could see 30-40 mm of rain in less than 2 hours.

Some thunderstorms will produce heavy rain and possibly frequent lightning too.
