A 52-year-old man from Rubery has been handed a court order for assaulting his ex-partner and a police officer.
Gavin Hamilton, of Brook Road, Rednal, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on September 29 where he pleaded guilty to the charges as well as criminal damage and breaching his court bail during the incident on September 8.
Hamilton had been arrested for refusing to allow his partner to leave a premises and for threatening her when she previously tried to call the police.
When police attended and arrested Hamilton, he assaulted one of the officers, breaking his body camera and grabbing hold of his taser. He then made threats to ‘taser’ the officer.
Hamilton was charged and sentenced to a community order as well as being ordered to attend an alcohol dependency course.
PC Ryan Clarke, from Bromsgrove Police, said: “Officers come to work to protect the public and keep them safe. They don’t expect to be assaulted and when they are we will do everything in our power to investigate, prosecute and convict those responsible.”
He added: “We take all allegations of domestic abuse seriously and urge anyone who thinks someone might be in an alleged abusive relationship to get in touch.
“You can do so on our website by filling out the forms at Report domestic abuse | West Mercia Police. Always call 999 in an emergency.”
