A PLAN to build 34 affordable new homes in Hopwood has been rejected by Bromsgrove District Council despite being recommended for approval.
An application for socially rented dwellings by Cawdor Capital went before the council's planning committee on Tuesday, November 6.
The proposed site for the homes, which is currently used for storage, is to the rear of Smedley Crooke Place off Redditch Road.
However, councillors voted to reject the housing proposal against the planning officer's recommendation.
Members considered the scheme to represent "inappropriate development" in the green belt to which no very special circumstances existed to outweigh the harm.
Planning committee members also considered the development to be located in an "unsustainable" location, exacerbated by the type of dwellings, lack of public transport, health and education opportunities for future occupants.
