Hundreds of residents gathered this weekend for the highly anticipated Christmas light switch-on in Bromsgrove.
The community got into the festive spirit as the popular event returned to the town on Saturday, November 18 kicking off celebrations with the Friends of St John’s Christmas Market on the High Street.
A range of stalls, fun fair rides and music could be enjoyed with street theatre and singers on the main stage as the countdown to the switch-on started from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
A spokesperson for Friends of St John’s said: “What a wonderful day in Bromsgrove on Saturday for our Christmas market event and the light switch on. The town was buzzing with joy and laughter to kick start the festive season.
“Thanks to everyone who joined us for our markets this year, thanks for brining a little joy to the town. It all added up to a magnificent day.”
Bromsgrove Discount Council’s cabinet member for leisure, councillor Steven Colella, added: “Each year this event gets bigger and better and what’s more it’s free for everyone to enjoy.”
Festivities continued until 9.30pm thanks to the Indie Club with food and drink being available at Birdbox from noon.
A number of trinkets, gifts and jewellery could also be found on the Christmas Market stalls throughout the day from 9am to 6pm with guest appearances from the Rock Choir, the Sound of Steel Steelband and the Vintage Class Singers.
Following the event, residents took to social media to express their praise for the event.
Michelle Kelly said: “Great shopping experience today, these stalls definitely brought in the crowd with such lovely items.”
Judith Jones said: “Another fantastic Christmas event. Well done team.”
Councillor Sam Ammar added: “What a weekend! The lights are up, time to decorate the house? Thanks to everyone who made it such a joyous weekend in Bromsgrove.”
