An exciting plan for a new Tesla base in Cofton Hackett is set to bring hundreds of jobs to the area.
The application, which was submitted by St Modwen Developments Ltd, will see a new storage and distribution hub move into Plot 5 of the Cofton Centre in Groveley Lane.
The site, which was previously home to the former MG Rover plant until 2005, promises to bring an estimated 310 full-time equivalent jobs to the centre with almost 200 more parking spaces.
As part of the planning statement, a spokesperson for St Mowden Developments Ltd, said: “The proposals represent another significant investment by St Mowden into the former MG Rover site in line with the transformational vision for the area to create many new jobs, homes and amenities.
“The closure of the former MG Rover plant had a significant impact on the economic and social well-being of the local community.”
In line with the plans, which were given the go-ahead in August 2021, a separate application for new signage at the facility was also approved on Friday (December 8).
The proposals include a number of lit Tesla ‘T’ logos and nonilluminated wayfinding signs.
The logos will be white in colour and positioned on existing grey cladding at the site.
As part of the decision notice, the head of planning, regeneration and leisure services, Ruth Bamford, said: “The proposal relates to the provision of various illuminated and non-illuminated signage to serve a storage and distribution commercial use.
“The assessment of advertisement consent applications is limited to the impact on amenity and public safety.”
In the earlier decision notice in 2021, they added: “The Committee Members agreed with to grant planning permission subject to the recommended conditions.
“The local planning authority have worked with the applicant in a positive and proactive manner to seek solutions to problems arising in relation to dealing with this planning application through negotiation and amendment.”
