A brain injury charity has appealed for support from residents as it vies for a share of a £5 million Tesco fund.

Charity Headway is vying for a share of Tesco's £5 million Stronger Starts fund, urging the community to vote for them in-store.

Delivered in partnership with Groundwork UK, the Stronger Starts programme awards up to £1,500 to community projects focusing on physical health and mental wellbeing.

The charity will use any funding received towards running sessions for its clients with brain injuries about how to healthily and safely cook.

The funds will secure ingredients and specialist equipment necessary for participant involvement in the sessions.

Headway Birmingham & Solihull is one of the shortlisted groups in the Rednal and Rubery area, via the Tesco store at New Road in Rubery.

Communications and fundraising manager Julie Wedgbury said: "We run Daily Living Skills sessions across our three brain injury hubs, designed to help those with brain injury re-learn lost skills and look after themselves better."

The scheme aims to not only aid in skill-building and confidence-boosting, but also give clients regular access to freshly prepared nutritious meals.

Voting is open in-store from the first week of April until the end of June, with customers able to cast their vote using a blue token given to them at the check-out each time they shop.
