A leading supermarket donated more than 8,700 meals across Worcestershire during the Easter school holidays.

Aldi, Britain's fourth-largest supermarket, partnered with charities, community groups, and food banks for the distribution of unsold fresh and chilled food year-round.

During the holidays, over 833,600 meals were donated across the country, including 32 good causes in Worcestershire alone.

The donations form a part of Aldi's partnership with Neighbourly, a platform linking businesses to charities.

Liz Fox, national sustainability director at the supermarket, said: "We know that the school holidays can be a particularly challenging time for families, and food banks regularly see heightened demand.

"By working with such amazing charities in Worcestershire through our partnership with Neighbourly, we can provide donations to those in need."

Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, said: "The ongoing cost-of-living crisis has increased the demand on food banks, particularly during the school holidays.

"Aldi's contributions serve as a lifeline for many, providing essential support to enable these causes to continue their vital work within local communities."

Since beginning their partnership with Neighbourly in 2019, Aldi has provided a total of over 44 million meals to various good causes across the UK.

The supermarket chain recently announced the introduction of a new 'Spring' fund, with the aim of relieving the difficulties faced by struggling families.

Eligible charities within the Neighbourly network will have access to microgrants of £500 to help them provide support to struggling families.
