THE team at an award-winning Hagley chippy did their bit to commemorate D-Day by serving up free fish and chips to residents at a nearby care home.
Staff at Our Plaice delivered boxes of their much-loved fish and chips to residents at Breach House in Belbroughton to mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings and to celebrate National Fish and Chip Day which is also being marked today (Thursday June 6).
Caroline Howard, owner of Our Plaice in Worcester Road, said: “We were honoured and delighted to serve the residents of Breach House free fish and chips, on this special occasion with it also being National Fish and Chip Day! They are a valued customer of ours.
“They all cheered when their fish and chips arrived. Don’t forget it was one of the only things not rationed during the war. Some say it won us the war!”
The home also staged a party for residents commemorating the milestone anniversary of the momentous military operation which marked the start of the campaign by Allied Forces to liberate north-west Europe from Nazi occupation.
