Police have seized two off-road bikes in a clampdown on illegal motorcycles causing a nuisance on the roads.

Officers from Rubery and Hagley Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have been fighting back against people using off-road scrambler bikes on the road following calls from concerned residents in Cofton Hackett and Rubery.

Residents have been concerned over reckless behaviour and the danger the illegal bikes are causing to the local community.

The SNT teams have been collating times, dates and locations of the incidents and have increased patrols in accordance with the data.

Officers have said that they would like to reassure residents that they are acting on their concerns and have also utilised the use of an unmarked vehicle to gather real-time intelligence that also gives them the ability to gain an advantage over these illegal bike users.

Police Constable Matthew Dunton, from Rubery and Hagley SNT, said: "We want to reinforce to the local community that we do take their concerns seriously and encourage them to continue contacting the police with information about the illegal use of off-road bikes.

"These types of motorcycle cannot be insured, taxed or have an MOT, therefore increasing the risk to the public through unregulated vehicles and without the public’s support, we would not be able to collate the data to be in the right place at the right time.

"We would therefore encourage anyone who is aware of individuals illegally riding these off-road bikes to contact us on 101 in a non-emergency, 999 in an emergency, and reports can also be made online through the website or email our team on: hr.snt@westmercia.police.uk."

The team seized two off-road bikes on Tuesday (June 11) with one being found in Cofton Hackett and the other in Rubery.

At around 4.30pm, officers seized an electric off-road bike on New Road, Rubery after two unknown males were seen riding them.

They attempted to ride off but an off-duty officer from West Midlands Police saw them and managed to retrieve one before they both fled on the other bike.

Later, around 8.30pm, PCSO Stuart Taylor was conducting a hot spot patrol on Cofton Church Lane when he spotted an unknown male on an off-road bike.

PCSO Taylor managed to seize the bike as the rider proceeded to run off.
