A BROMSGROVE teenager helped secure second place for England in the 2024 European Team Championship for Golfers with Disability.

North Bromsgrove High School sixth-former Tom Blizzard heard about the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA) after years of playing the sport at club, county and England regional squad level.

As the 18-year-old has autism he became interested in what this could offer.

After playing in a number of EDGA events and top-three gross ranking in all played during 2023, he subsequently gained a top-20 world ranking.

These performances qualified Blizzard to play in the G4D Open, the flagship event on the G4D Tour Championship run by the R&A and DP World Tour and this year hosted by Woburn Golf Club near Milton Keynes.

The Bromsgrove teenager won his classification and finished seventh overall.

The field included many G4D touring players so it was a great achievement.

Shortly after this success Blizzard received the call from the England Golf selectors and was informed he had been selected to represent the national disability team in the European Championships in Hosel, Germany.

This was a team championship where Blizzard played in foursomes, greensomes and four-ball better ball gross strokeplay over three days.

His five birdies in the final round helped England secure second place from the Netherlands by two shots while France won the competition.

In October, Blizzard will be starting his professional studies degree at the University of Birmingham while working at Solihull's Robin Hood Golf Club and being mentored by head professional Jamie Carney.
