Residents have been invited to enjoy a special afternoon tea dance in Bromsgrove.

Bromsgrove District Council chairman councillor Sam Ammar and Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest have asked the community to join them for a charity afternoon tea dance.

The event is being held at the Parkside Suite (B61 8DA) on Thursday, September 5 from 2pm until 4pm and will see a performance by vintage singer Helen Pearson.

When originally choosing Age UK BRWF as her civic charity, councillor Ammar spoke about the importance of preventing and tackling loneliness and isolation within the community.

This was especially important as people get older where it can be more challenging to maintain social connections.

Councillor Ammar said: "Social connections are the glue that holds communities together and the foundation on which we build relationships, support systems and a sense of belonging."

Over the years, Bromsgrove District Council has hosted several afternoon tea dances to help provide an opportunity for members of the community to come together to enjoy the music, dance, chat and make new friends.

The organisers hope this year's event will be just as popular with the community.

Tickets for the afternoon tea dance are £5 which includes cakes and refreshments.

They are available to purchase from Age UK's BRWF's High Street and Sidemoor charity shops as well as by emailing Sharon Chaplin at s.chaplin@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk

All proceeds raised from the event will help support Age UK BRWF's local work including its free information and advice and befriending service.

The charity is also seeking donations for cakes and raffle prizes for the event.
