Police have revealed the cause of a major blaze that broke out in a derelict building in Worcestershire.
The fire, which started at a former timber yard, left the building on Park Lane in Kidderminster completely gutted.
It is believed to have started at around 11.30am on Saturday, September 7 with eyewitnesses describing the "huge flames" that were visible in the distance from Weavers Wharf.
In an update today (Monday, September 16), West Mercia Police have confirmed that the fire is being treated as arson.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Following a fire of a building on Park Lane in Kidderminster on Saturday, September 7, the fire is being treated as arson and an investigation is now ongoing."
Scores of firefighters from Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Stourbridge and Haden Cross fought the flames using an aerial platform and pumping water from the nearby canal.
By 7pm the response had been "scaled down to 2 pumps continuing to dampen down hotspots".
Residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed with motorists and the public advised to avoid the area.
Firefighters remained at the scene throughout Sunday (September 8) to check for potential hotspots.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed their investigation team had noted the fire was started "deliberately".
Recent images taken at the site have revealed the extensive damage done to the building by the fire with demolition work now appearing to be underway.
