Residents have voiced their anger over the closure of a popular pub in Bromsgrove.

Brewers Fayre restaurant The Guild closed its doors to the wider public earlier this summer as part of a growth plan for Premier Inn by owners Whitbread.

The move was announced in April along with plans to sell 126 of its less profitable branded restaurants.

The Guild remains open for guests staying at the nearby hotel, but residents have now spoken out about the loss to the wider community.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "I cannot believe how short-sighted they have been in closing The Guild. You can now only visit if you are staying at the nearby hotel.

"The Guild was popular not only because of its location next to the A38, but even more so as it was a perfect spot to eat before going to a show at the Artrix.

"Whitbreads are also saying they have other Beefeater restaurants equally close by but this is simply not the case. The Artrix is a much loved local venue which deserves all the support it can get."

In a message to customers following the closure, the company apologised for any inconvenience the changes would cause to customers.

The Premier Inn has also urged customers to try nearby Whitbread restaurants including the Redditch North Beefeater and Birmingham South Beefeater.

In response to the disappointment of residents in the community, a spokesperson for Premier Inn said: "After many years serving the community, we can confirm The Guild restaurant closed its doors in early July.

"We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support over the years and our amazing team members.

"The nearest Whitbread restaurant for members of the community to enjoy is the Beefeater adjacent to the A441 to the north of Redditch and we do hope to welcome people there."
