DROITWICH'S popular High Street Car Park has come under new management - with several new changes for shoppers to be aware of.

Waitrose agreed on a new 10-year lease for their store in the town centre in June and made a deal to rent the adjacent car park.

From Monday (October 28) shoppers at the supermarket will be able to park for free for one hour if they spend £10 or more in store, while visitors to the high street will still be able to park and pay.

Charges are as follows:

  • up to 15 minutes: free
  • up to 30 minutes: 50p
  • up to one hour: £1
  • up to three hours: £2

The maximum stay in the car park is three hours and charges will only be applied between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

As part of the change, Waitrose has installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras which is paid for when leaving the car park by entering your registration plate at the payment terminal, which only accepts card payments.

The Ricketts Lane Car Park opposite will remain a Wychavon-operated car park and will continue to accept cash and Ringo mobile app payments.

After the agreement was made in June, Greg Trumper, Waitrose Droitwich branch manager, said: "The new lease and investment being delivered reinforces our long-term commitment to the town.

"The agreement for the car park ensures our customers can look forward to an even better, more convenient shopping experience with us in the future."
