A man has been released on police bail after a body was found "lying in a layby" in Hollywood.

West Mercia Police said they were called at around 11.55pm on Sunday (November 3) to a report of a man lying in a layby on the A435 Hollywood Bypass.

Officers and ambulance crews, including two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma team, were sent to the scene.

The crews started advanced life support, but despite their best efforts, a 51-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "When ambulance staff arrived, they found police officers performing CPR on a pedestrian, a man.

"The team of ambulance staff quickly commenced advanced life support but sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save the pedestrian, and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

Police said it is believed the man was hit by a vehicle before it left the area.

A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and in an update today (Tuesday, November 5), police confirmed that he had been released on bail.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision.

Inspector Stephanie Arrowsmith, from Bromsgrove Roads Policing, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision as they may have information which could help with our investigation.
