A FASHION show has raised more than £900 in support of refugees living locally last month.

Refugees from Ukraine joined volunteers on the catwalk for a fund-raiser organised by Bromsgrove & Redditch Welcome Refugees (BRWR) that attracted a crowd of more than 100. After the show, High Street outfits that had been modelled, were sold at big discounts.

BRWR chair Yvonne Rendell praised the level of support for the event, especially during a cost-of-living crisis.

“It was a happy, successful event that raised a large amount to support the work that the group does,” she said. “We’re very grateful to people in the town who continue to support refugees as they integrate into our communities.

“We also want to thank all the amazing models – most of them Ukrainians – who brought the catwalk to life with their spirit and glamour. They were magnificent.”

BRWR supports about 200 refugees in both Bromsgrove and Redditch as they try to create new lives after fleeing their war-torn home countries.  Help ranges from friendship and practical support to financial assistance.

The fashion show at was held at Bromsgrove Methodist Church Centre, on Stratford Road. The hall was provided free of charge by the church.

BRWR constantly welcomes new volunteers and funding. The group can be contacted at info@brwr.uk.
