THREE lanes of the M6 Northbound have been closed following a car fire between J14 for Stafford and J15 for Stoke-On-Trent.

The motorway was closed entirely this morning due to the fire and a large diesel spill.

Three lanes remain shut to allow for the spillage to be cleared, with “severe delays” of more than two hours being reported on approach to the junction.

National Highways West Midlands has urged anyone planning to travel along this route to allow extra journey time or use a different route.

Diversion signs have been put in place, directing drivers at J14 to take the exit to the A34 northbound.

Drivers have been told they can continue along A34 northbound to the junction with A500 at Hanford, then take the exit to A500 westbound and rejoin the M6 at J15.

National Highways are urging motorists to check before they travel to avoid being stuck in the congestion.
